N ow for some technology to promote road safety. The Kerala Road Safety Authority is organising a road safety hackathon at the Technopark in Thiruvananthapuram. The two-day event, which kicks on Saturday, will aim at developing technology solutions – software or hardware – to promote road safety and reduce the frequency of road accidents.

E lections to the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike will be held on Saturday. While there is no provision for a NOTA vote in the municipal polls, those not willing to vote in the elections can still do that. A voter can walk up to the polling officer, prove his or her identity, sign the register and decline to vote. The election authorities will make a "refused to vote" note in the register. There are 73 lakh people eligible to vote in the polls.

T he Railways will run a special train to Kochuveli from the Capital on Saturday to clear the Onam rush. The special train for Kochuveli will start from Nizamuddin station at 5.55 am. On the return journey, the special train will depart from Kochuveli to reach the Capital on August 28 at 11 pm.

P rotests by FTII students against Gajendra Chauhan's appointment as Chairman notwithstanding, the admission test for the academic year 2015-16 will be held on Sunday. The authorities are keen that the next academic year and future admissions do not suffer because of the agitation by the students.

B andhan Bank will open 14 branches in the South on Sunday, when it rolls out operations from about 600 branches across the country. The 14 branches will be spread across Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Bandhan is transforming itself into a universal bank from a microfinance entity. It will start with a ₹11,000-crore book, capital of ₹3,200 crore, about 600 branches and 250 ATMs across the country.
