The Central Statistics Office is to come out with the advance estimates of the national income on January 7, one month ahead of the usual date. The data is used as an input in the making of the Budget, which the government is planning to unveil on February 1 as against the convention of last working date of February.
The annual overseas Indians' gathering -- Pravasi Bharatiya Divas -- will be held in Bengaluru from January 7-9. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the 14th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas on Sunday in the presence of the Prime Minister of Portugal, Dr Antonio Costa, the chief guest at the convention. On the opening day of the convention, Minister of State for External Affairs, Gen V.K. Singh (Retd), will inaugurate the PBD exhibition, along with the Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
The World Book Fair, the largest event of its kind in the country, will open in Pragati Maidan in New Delhi on Saturday. The 44th edition of the book fair will be inaugurated by Minister of State for Human Resource Development (Higher Education) Mahendra Nath Pandey. National Book Trust is the organiser of the nine-day event, which will promote Indian heritage through music and dance performances and is expected to host 1,500 participants from across India, including over 50 foreign exhibitors.
To foster long-term relationships among young leaders across the globe and to create a dialogue among students on issues related to India, the third annual Harvard US-India Conference will be held on Saturday and Sunday in Mumbai. The meet is managed by a team comprising students from Harvard College as well as other colleges in the US and India. As many as 375 delegates will attend the conference.
As many as 134 films from across the globe will be screened at the ninth edition of the Jaipur International Film Festival scheduled to begin in the city on Saturday. The event is expected to draw 250 filmmakers and artistes from the fraternity and aims to promote emerging directors, as well as encourage exchange of knowledge, information, ideas and culture between India and the participating nations.
