The second edition of the ‘Make in Steel’ conference will be held in New Delhi on Friday. The conference will be inaugurated and addressed by Minister of Steel — Chaudhary Birender Singh and Steel Secretary — Aruna Sharma, besides eminent industry stalwarts and experts from India and abroad. It will provide a robust platform for issue-based discussions, showcasing modern technologies for steel making, policy planning, raw material security, supply chain, logistics and environment.

Markets regulator SEBI is to organise an international conference focussed on exploring issues that drive spot and futures markets in Mumbai on Friday. The objective is to generate discussion on several important issues in the Indian commodity derivatives market, particularly in agri commodity derivatives. Besides, it aims to promote interest in commodity derivatives among hedgers, processors, physical market participants, academia and practitioners.

A seminar on ‘Good Design’ is being organised by the India Design Council at the PSG Institute of Medical Sciences and Research in Coimbatore on Friday. According to Rajshree Pathy, Founder, India Design Forum, will communicate the role of design in creating innovation and building sustainable competitive advantage for businesses. “The Council has the conviction that design, innovation and growth are linked towards making ‘Designed in India, Made for the World’, she added.

Hollywood actress Ashley Judd, who is currently touring India to advocate against gender-based violence and discrimination, will be addressing students in DU's Indraprastha College for Women on February 17. The actress was in Delhi last month also to speak on the issue. The event has been organised by the Women's Development Cell of the college, and the session is called 'A conversation with Ashley Judd: What's on my Mind and Tell Me What's on Yours'.

The fifth edition of the Great Backyard Bird Count (GBBC) will begin on Friday. The count, which will end on February 20, is a global event and those interested in participating in the programme could go birding for at least 15 minutes, list and count all the species that they see and upload the list in eBird (www.ebird.org) on any of the four days or on all days. As the name suggests, one can count birds even from their backyard or any other place of interest. Birders can update their lists as many times as possible. The Campus Bird Count is a sub-event of GBBC in which all types of institutions can participate. So far seven educational institutions in Salem have registered. On February 18 and 19, bird walks will be conducted for the public by the United Salem for Bird Life at Kannankurichi Mookaneri Lake.
