Purushottam Kaushik, former managing director of sales for India & SAARC at Cisco, has begun working with McKinsey in an advisory capacity since December 16.

As Senior Advisor to McKinsey’s Smart Cities practice, he will provide additional guidance to McKinsey’s Pune Smart City project, bring in industry connect to their Smart City projects and take their engagements with other newer cities forward.

Kaushik has also joined the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay as Adjunct Associate Professor in December to mentor students in the domain areas of Internet of Things (IoT) and Smart Cities and help a few start-ups incubated in the institute with their go-to-market strategy.

In addition, he is working with the Chandigarh administration to open a Smart City Innovation Centre in the PEC University of Technology campus, which is scheduled to be inaugurated in April and aims to showcase Smart City & Infrastructure solutions from industry and start-ups.

At Cisco, he was responsible for creating and managing a $2-billion business opportunity which Cisco is looking to address over the next few years from country transformation projects including smart cities, e-governance, citizen services, mobility, public safety, IoT etc.

“I am very excited about my diverse engagements with McKinsey, IIT-Bombay and the Chandigarh administration. Currently, 50 per cent of my time is spent with McKinsey.

“I am assisting other States like Madhya Pradesh, Chandigarh and Punjab on a pro bono basis, to develop their Smart City blueprint, engage with industry players in the space as well as bring in the IoT start-up ecosystem. I am helping two IoT start-ups Covacsis and Linkstreet build their GTM strategy,” Kaushik told BusinessLine .
