Stalemate continued between the union and management of Foxconn on opening the factory inside the Sriperumbudur SEZ. The factory has stopped production since December 22 as there was no order from customers.

The fifth round of talks between the union and management held today before the Assistant Labour Commissioner, Sriperumbudur, remained inconclusive with both parties unrelenting. The union wanted the factory’s gates to be opened to enable workers mark their attendance but the management said there was no point in opening since there was no production. E Muthu Kumar, President, Foxconn India Employees Union, said the union has urged the labour department to use Section 10-B of the Industrial Disputes Act, 1982, and refer the issue to the courts for inquiry.

The next round of talks is scheduled on January 9. The union has decided to once again try to enter the factory on January 5.

Union representatives were not interested in a voluntary retirement scheme or severance package that may be offered by the company, sources said.
