The Government is yet to allocate funds for three new medical colleges to be set up by Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC).
The decision to set up the colleges in Mavelikkara in Kerala, Jhunjhunu in Rajasthan and Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh was taken in ESIC’s meeting on September 19,2013, the Minister of State for Labour, K Suresh, said in a written reply in the Lok Sabha.
The Minister said funds had not been allocated in view of the large-scale regulatory pre-conditions for grant of letter of permission by Medical Council of India (MCI). Also, there was no time-frame for completion of these projects, he said, adding that applications had already been submitted in this regard.
