The officers of Customs at Mangalore International Airport seized gold, totally weighing 878 gms valued at ₹23.48 lakh, in two separate cases on Saturday.

A press release by the Customs Department said here that in both the cases the officers seized gold in the form of wire rods, beads, pieces in assorted sizes and shapes.

These items were concealed in watch straps, toy cars, pen refills, electric plugs, key chain, magnetic wrist band, fancy chain and bracelet, alarm clock, and zip holder of bag pack.

In the first case, 436 gms of gold items valued at ₹11.66 lakh were seized from the possession of a passenger, Mohammed Ashraf Parakatta of Kasaragod district in Kerala. He arrived at Mangalore International Airport from Dubai at 4.45 am on Saturday, it said.

In the second case, 442 gms of gold items valued at ₹11.82 lakh were seized from the possession of another passenger, Suhaib Thalangara Mohamood of Kasaragod district in Kerala. He arrived at Mangalore International Airport from Dubai at 8.15 am on Saturday, the release added.
