Growth has to be faster but at the same time it should be inclusive and pro-poor, according to Sukhadeo Thorat, Chairman, Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), Ministry of HRD.
He was delivering a lecture on inclusive growth organised jointly by the Institute of Public Enterprise (IPE) and Federation of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (Ftappci) here on Monday.
Growth should take care of the poor so that there is less need for government targeted intervention for the poor.
“Efforts are being made to develop a growth strategy for each of the sectors to ensure that they will be pro-poor,’’ Thorat said.
Social exclusion and discrimination were among the ‘bad inequalities’ which should be eliminated, he added.
