Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd has signed an agreement to sell Russian firm radar computers worth Rs 65 crore.

Indigenously designed and developed Radar Computer I and Radar Computer II are being manufactured since 2004 at HAL’s Avionics Division, Hyderabad.

These are integrated into Airborne Radar System in Su-30MKI A/c. Radar Computers are critical for mission operation on the A/c. RC-I is used for accomplishing coordinated mission operations among related avionics systems in the A/c, whereas RC-II is used to accomplish the coordinated operations within Radar system.

Till date, about 300 of these computers are produced by the division for various aircraft programmes of Indian Air Force, Algerian Air Force through Rosoboronexport and Russian Air Force through Rosoboronexport.

Delivery schedule commences from January 2014. The total value of the contract is $12.2 million (Rs 65 crore). Currently, these radar computers are being manufactured at Kasargod unit of HAL (Kerala), which was recently inaugurated by Defence Minister A.K. Antony.

“Delighted by the performance of RC I and RC II, IRKUT Corporation, Russia has confirmed purchase of 34 sets each of Radar Computer-I and Radar Computer-II for Russian Air Force requirements from us,” said the person in-charge of the division.
