“I myself will wield broom to start the Swacch Bharat cleaning mission,” said Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Addresss BJP party workers here on his maiden visit to Karnataka after becoming Prime Minister, Modi said this Government is planning to commence the Swacch Bharat mission from Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya’s birthday anniversary on September 25 and will go on till Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday anniversary - October 2.
“I will go out to clean. Some people ask me why is the Prime Minister doing such petty work. Yes, I myself am a small man and I belong to a simple family. So coming from that background, I would like to take work like cleaning that will raise India’s status,” Modi said.
He further added, “Initially, Government departments will be involved and in later phases, all spheres of public activity will be involved,” the told the BJP workers.
Commenting on the universal banking scheme, the Jan Dhan Yojana, that he launched last month, he said: “The response to Jan Dhan has been good. Even though it is ‘zero balance’ account, people reposing faith in our Government have so far deposited ₹1,500 crore.”
