In its attempt to herald gender equality, Tata group’s Indian Hotels Company Ltd (IHCL) is working on a 1:1 workforce ratio of men and women at its luxury serviced apartments in Taj Wellington Mews, Mumbai. Separately, another group company Tata Motors has raisedthe percentage of women on the shop floor to 2,600, a 6 per cent increase in the last six months. Further, the serviced apartments are also looking at initiatives such as flexible working hours, childcare facilities, increased weekly offs and abolishing break shifts to help women manage both personal and professional lives with ease.

“Many initiatives to help women are in the pipeline, and starting this Women’s Day, we should be implementing a couple of them in a phased manner, and over time,” a source close to the development told BusinessLine .

IHCL owns and operates the Taj Group of Hotels.

Earlier this year, it had opted for a single-brand identity under Taj Hotels Palaces Resorts Safaris to reinforce the legacy of the Taj. “The employment stands at 25-26 per cent women within the current workforce at Taj Wellington Mews and we aim to increase the same to 50 per cent,” a company spokesperson said, confirming the news.

The luxury service apartments will bring in gender equity and other women-centric initiatives in phased manner.

The service apartment boasts of a guest list including actor Rahul Khanna, Nancera Moreau, former Chief Operting Officer, Societe Generale, France and Nairut Kapadia, Director at Standard Chartered Bank, India, among others.
