For most of us, reading comics hidden inside text books or under blankets was part of growing up. But there’s no reason why you should miss out on that fun.

To indulge the comic fan, the fourth edition of Comic Con India is kicking off in Delhi tomorrow. The three-day event will see illustrators, comic book writers and graphic artists from around the world showcasing their work.

Special sessions

Apart from special sessions with international comic artists such as Mark Waid, David Lloyd, Gabriel Ba, Fabio Moon, John Layman, the convention will also honour Pran Kumar Sharma, the creator of Chacha Chaudhary, with a lifetime achievement award.

And if you thought Comic Con India is just about meeting your favourite artists and buying tonnes of merchandise, it’s not so. The event is also a platform for budding comic book writers.

“We have a total of 18 publishers, out of which, 10 are independent small artists,” Comic Con India founder Jatin Varma told Business Line.

However, this year’s event is ticketedwhich may restrict access. Varma, however, says the charge will be nominal.

“We had to start ticketing because we were shifting venue from Dilli Haat (to Thyagaraj Stadium) as we were running out of space. Although the previous venue was uniqueas it was open air, we have seen an increase in the number of exhibitors from 60 last year to about 100 this year,” Varma said, adding that ticketing will also help improve the quality and enhance the scale of the convention.
