The Madras High Court today ordered notice of admission on a petition seeking to suspend a single Judge’s January 8 order on Kamal Hassan’s ‘Vishwaroopam’, with respect to imposition of costs on the petitioner.

The judge had dismissed with costs of Rs 10,000 an application in a suit filed by Regent Saimira Entertainment Ltd, seeking an injunction restraining Raajkamal Films International (RFI) and others from releasing the movie, pending payment of outstanding dues to it.

The applicant had said RFI and others were liable to pay Rs 10.5 crore along with interest and not free to commence any new production due to a MoU of April 2008. Such a venture ought to have been undertaken after paying dues to creditors.

A single judge had dismissed the petition with costs.

Hence, the present appeal by Regent Saimira. It sought an interim injunction restraining RFI from releasing the film in cinema theatres or in DTH format, pending disposal of the appeal.
