A majority of women travellers in India prefer to vacation in Goa, distantly followed by Ladakh, according to a survey by travel portal MakeMyTrip.

The survey said 72 per cent women respondents said they preferred to spend their holidays in Goa, followed by 12 per cent in Ladakh, 5 per cent each in Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Rajasthan and 4 per cent in the Andamans.

The survey, which did not reveal the sample size, said 44 per cent of the women preferred the hills, 36 per cent liked beaches and only 20 per cent liked to indulge in adventure travel.

Overall, safety was still the key issue for women travellers, with only 49 per cent saying they felt safe while travelling in India.

When asked whether women feel safer travelling in India or overseas, 63 per cent said, “It depends on the destination and not the country”.

Mohit Gupta, Chief Business Officer- Holidays, MakeMyTrip said, “Increasing incomes, paucity of time to coordinate holidays with family members, and a growing number of financially secure women in the 40-70-year age-group are the reasons for their travel,” adding that his firm has women’s special packages and would soon increase the number of destinations on offer.
