A miscreant fired a shot in a State Bank of India ATM counter near Yusufguda here this morning and took away gold ornaments, ATM card and personal identification number from a woman customer.

According to the information revealed by the victim, who works for a private company here, the miscreant entered the ATM counter after a couple of minutes while she was attempting to withdraw the money.

“He told me that he had a gun but did not want to harm but fired one round at the ATM asking me to be silent,” she said.

As the ATM was not functioning, he took her card with PIN number and also relieved her of her gold chain, earrings, and ring.

“I was told to remain inside the ATM for 10 minutes as his associates were watching me,” the woman, who is yet to come out of shock told police and newspersons at the police station.

Later the available balance of ₹3,500 was also withdrawn from the account.

The ATM had no security at the time of the event. Banks had beefed up security at ATMs after a woman customer was brutally attacked inside an ATM in Bangalore in November 2013.

However, some guards were later withdrawn from some locations on expenditure grounds.

When contacted, a SBI spokesperson told BusinessLine that the “matter is being looked into.”
