Vinayaka Mission’s Research Foundation has signed an MoU with US-based Global Institute of Nanotechnology for research and academic collaboration and student and faculty development.
Vijay K Varadan, Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer, Nanowear Inc, and Director, Global Institute of Nanotechnology in Engineering and Medicine, has come up with indigenous technologies that will measure health parameters such as ECG, heart rate and blood pressure and wireless brain-machine interface that can be used for diagnosing autism and sleep disorder.
This is how the two technologies work. Fabric such as bedsheets and undergarments embedded with nano sensors measure various parameters. The data are then transmitted to cloud through smart-phones. The product costs $400 and is USFDA approved.
‘Expensive’
AS Ganesan, Chancellor, Vinayaka Mission’s Research Foundation, said while the tools are easy to use, they are expensive. Researchers and medical fraternity will work together at the Aarupadai Veedu Institute of Technology run by the foundation to find a cost-effective solution. “We will also set up mobile clinics at the four hospitals run by us in Puducherry and Salem to conduct clinical trials,” he added.
