Siruvani Adivaram, a tribal area under Coimbatore Postal Division, has become the first tribal area in the country to achieve 100 per cent coverage under Sukanya Samridhi Yojana (SSA).

The scheme, launched by the Prime Minister in January last requires an initial deposit of ₹1,000 per girl child.

A release from Coimbatore Postal Division notes that the postal employees belonging to NFPE Union contributed the sum voluntarily to help the girl children of the tribal area enrolled.

Hailing the social commitment of the postal employees, Manju P Pillai, Postmaster General, Western Region, Coimbatore, gave away the pass book to the children and emphasised the government's role in securing the financial future of the girl child as part of ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ programme.
