Fintech Valley, Visakhapatnam, is to host a two-day global conference on blockchain technology from Monday, and, as a pre-cursor to the event, a golf tournament will be organised at the East Point Golf Club here on Sunday. Around 40 CEOs each from local companies and companies outside Vizag are expected to participate, according to J.A Chowdary, the adviser (IT) to AP Government.

He told the media here on Friday that the state government was going all out to promote fintech and blockchain technology, a nascent area that had been identified as a promising one. "We will promote Visakhapatnam as the destination for fintech and blockchain technology in the country by creating the right eco-system for it. Already, several big companies and start-ups have evinced interest in starting operations here," he said.

He said there was little understanding about blockchain technology, not only in the general public, but even among IT professionals and "we are, therefore, organising the event to demystify the technology."

He went on to explain the salient features of the technology and its applications in different fields.

The Chief Minister would inaugurate the conference on Monday morning, he added.

T.S Varma, Secretary of East Point Golf Club, and District Collector Pravin Kumar, spoke about the arrangements being made for the tournament and event.
