The Karnataka government has constituted the fourth State Finance Commission with CG Chinnaswamy as Chairman and HD Amaranathan and H Shashidhar as members.
The Commission will review financial positions of the zilla panchayats, taluk panchayats, gram pranchayats and other local bodies and make recommendations to the Governor on their taxes, duties and tolls.
“This also constitutes the grant-in-aid to the elected bodies from the consolidated fund of the State,” a government release said.
The Commission will also recommend measures to improve the financial position of these bodies, and suggest on the manner in which the resources available to the local bodies could best be used.
Detailed analysis on repayment of loans and advances extended by government from time to time to the local bodies will also be taken up.
The Commission will have to furnish its report to the government by May 31, 2016.
