The Andhra Pradesh government has decided to buy 36 lakh tonnes of cement every quarter for various government works.
It will soon form a ministerial panel to decide on the price of cement to be procured by the government. This was announced by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu at a meeting with the representatives of cement companies here on Tuesday.
“The Government has recognised the cement industry as a growth engine and will extend all cooperation to the industry. The cement manufacturers should cooperate with the government in price fixation to supply cement to the government with a sense of social purpose,” Naidu said.
The road, port and airport projects, the Polavaram project and the construction of the new capital Amaravati will require significant quantities of cement, the Chief Minister said, adding that the companies should desist from frequent hikes in cement prices.
