Trade and industry chambers have expressed delight over the Bengaluru city finally getting selected under the Centre’s Smart City mission.
Bangalore Chamber of Industry and Commerce (BCIC) President Thyagu Valliappa said, “The selection in the final round was expected considering the fact Bengaluru is a global city. We have the best of companies based out of the city and we have the best of human capital.”
BCIC was the first business association which mooted the idea of turning Bengaluru into a smart city way back in 2007 when a detailed presentation was made to the then Union Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee.
Expressing concern over the slow pace of large infrastructure projects such as the metro rail, Valliappa said, “Now that Bengaluru has come under the smart city plan, these projects need to be expedited.”
Kassia The Karnataka Small Scale Industries Association (Kassia) President Padmanabha said, “Bengaluru deserved this recognition. Hope it improves the city’s infrastructure and quality of life.”
