The Union Government will sanction Rs 20,000 crore for the outer ring road project surrounding the AP capital region here covering 180 km around Vijayawada and Amaravati, the new capital. The funds would be released once the State Government acquires the land and prepares the detailed project report (DPR), according to the Union Surface Transport Minister, Nitin Gadkari.

He was speaking here on Saturday after laying the foundation stone for two major flyovers - one at the famous Goddess Kanaka Durga temple and the other at Benz Circle.

Gadkari said his ministry would take up various national highway project works worth Rs 65,000 crore at different places in the State. "Already works worth Rs 15,000 crore have started and I assure you the remaining works will also commence, once the State Government completes land acquisition and prepares DPRs," he said.

The minister expressed confidence that under the dynamic leadership of Chandrababu Naidu, the works would be completed fast. With the joint efforts of the Union Government and the State Government, AP would emerge as one of the best states in the country.

The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, N Chandrababu Naidu, thanked the Union Government and the minister for sanctioning the outer ring road project and said the State Government would expedite the projects.

Union Urban Development Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu also participated in the programme.
