A group of leading industrialists and professionals with diverse interests has floated the Chennai International Centre to serve as a platform for thought leaders in various fields to share and exchange their views on topical issues.

The international centre in Chennai is the fifth after the India International Centre in Delhi, Goa, Bengaluru and Pune.

Inaugural address Briefing media persons on the launch of the CIC, Gopal Srinivasan, Chairman of the Centre, said the Centre will launch its activities on July 29 with a talk by Nandan Nilekani, co-founder of Infosys Technologies and former Chairman of Unique Identification Authority of India, on the theme ‘An alternative view of the future.’

The event will be held at the Madras School of Economics.

The CIC will promote a healthy exchange of information and ideas and provide a neutral platform for various disciplines, including politics, education, business, culture, arts, science and social science. It plans to organise 20-50 events a year bringing achievers and leaders in a wide range of fields for interaction, said Srinivasan, who is chairman of TVS Capital.

V Ravichandar, Trustee, Bangalore International Centre and CIC, said both centres will work closely to share ideas and offer high quality programmes. The Bangalore Centre, which is over a decade old, has over 800 associates and organises 70-80 programmes a year. Ravichandar is Chairman of Feedback Business Consulting Services.

Non-profit firm MS Srinivasan, former Petroleum Secretary, who is a Trustee of CIC, said the Trust has promoted the Centre as a not-for-profit company. The institutional structure ensures that its activities are sustained over the long term.

Another trustee, N Lakshmi Narayanan, Vice-Chairman, Cognizant Technology Solutions, said, “The future belongs to ideas, more disruptive the idea, faster the growth. CIC will foster debate and discussion for a better future.”
