The Coimbatore Chapter of the Confederation of Indian Industry plans to promote the city as a valve hub.
Nethra Kumar, outgoing Chairman of CII, Coimbatore zone, said, “The city is emerging as a hub for valves. The industry body has, therefore, sought the Centre's approval for setting up a centre of excellence for valves in Coimbatore as well as Rajkot.
“We plan to request the government for an Innovation Fund. We have just commenced work on preparation of a detailed project report. It will be ready for submission to the government in three months. The proposal will strengthen the government’s Make in India mission,” she said.
Organ donation Another successful initiative launched last year was the organ donation drive. “We did not envisage it to become a pan-India movement. Today, more than 40 chapters of CII have taken it up and over 14,000 individuals have pledged organs.
She said the industry body is in discussion with Coimbatore Corporation on green initiatives. “We are also in the process of making the temple hillock of Maruthamalai a plastic-free zone. The eco-restoration of Maruthamalai is estimated to cost over ₹50 lakh.
