Concrete works at the mega Polavaram project on the Godavari in West Godavari district will begin on December 19. Union Minister for Water Resources Uma Bharati will be invited to inaugurate the work.

It was stated at the weekly review meeting conducted on the Polavaram project on Monday by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu at the Secretariat at Velagapudi.

The Chief Minister said the work on the diaphragm wall would begin in the first week of January and the work on the fabrication of gates in the second week of January.

The irrigation department officials informed him that earth works were going on at a brisk pace at the site. The total quantity of excavation by March, 2017, would be of the order of 40,02,000 lakh cubic metres at the project site.

Later, the Chief Minister held a meeting with representatives of 19 cement companies and urged them to supply cement to the project and various other projects being taken up in the State government at reasonable rates.

The representatives of the companies agreed to supply cement at ₹230 per bag for CC roads and housing projects in the State, at ₹240 per bag for other projects and ₹250 per bag for Polavaram project.
