The Congress alleged on Friday that Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari allowed his private secretary Vaibhav Dange to get funds from his Ministry to the Indian Federation of Green Energy (IFGE), an establishment of which Dange was a promoter.

Gadkari and Commerce Minister Suresh Prabhu are members of the National Executive Committee of IFGE.

Responding to a report that appeared in The Hindu, senior Congress leader and MP Jairam Ramesh said Gadkari and Prabhu have breached the code of conduct for ministers and alleged that there is clash of interest of the ministers remaining as executive committee members of a firm which handles many programmes of the Centre.

“Even today the IFGE organised a conference on ‘Ethanol As a Transport Fuel’ in partnership with the Centre Institute of Road Transport under the Ministry of Transport in Pune,” Ramesh said.

The Congress leader demanded that the Centre expel Dange for violating the Central Civil Service (Conduct) Rules, which prohibit a public servant from accepting contributions and associating with raising of any funds or collections of cash.

“How can Gadkari permit his own Ministry and PSUs to financially contribute to a company that is 50 per cent owned by his own private secretary?” he asked.
