The Delhi government registered a growth of 20.84 per cent in tax collections in 2016-17 as against 13.61 per cent growth in 2015-16, according to the Economic Survey 2016-17 tabled in the Assembly on Tuesday.
Minister of PWD, Health and Power Satyendar Jain tabled the Survey on behalf of Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Manish Sisodia.
“With concerted efforts, total tax of ₹30,225.16 crore could be collected during 2015-16 with a growth of 13.61 per cent over 2014-15,” said an official release.
DVAT/sales revenue
The number of dealers registered under DVAT/sales tax grew from 2.24 lakh in 2009-10 to 3.73 lakh (tentative) in 2016-17, said the survey.
The advance estimate of gross state domestic product of Delhi at current prices during 2016-17 is likely to attain the level of ₹62,2385 crore, which is estimated to grow at 12.76 per cent over 2015-16, while the advance estimate of net state domestic product is likely to attain a level of ₹56,5655 crore in 2016-17, and is estimated to grow at 12.88 per cent over 2015-16, said the survey.
The country’ capital has a predominant service sector, which contributed 82.26 per cent to its economy during 2016-17, followed by contribution of secondary and primary sectors. Income from the manufacturing sub-sector, which is the largest contributor in the secondary sector, increased from ₹18,907 crore in 2011-12 to ₹45,689 crore in 2016-17. The advance estimate of per capita income of Delhi at current prices during 2016-17 has been estimated at ₹30,3073, against ₹27,3618 in 2015-16, ₹24,9004 in 2014-15 and ₹22,9518 in 2013-14.
Power consumption
Power consumption in the national capital recorded an annual growth of about 3.39 per cent, while electricity supply increased from 23,537 million units in 2005-06 to 33,615 million units in 2015-16.
“The total number of electricity consumers in Delhi was 52.62 lakh in 2015-16.” It said, adding that there was an 84.43 per cent rise in the number of electricity consumers in the past 10 years.
The survey also noted a huge reduction in aggregate technical and commercial losses in Delhi, from 52 per cent in the pre-reform era to 12.15 per cent in 2015-16.
