The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam president M Karunanidhi has cut short his election campaign by road for the Tamil Nadu Assembly election and will restrict himself to addressing public meetings.
According to a statement from the DMK, he will address public meetings in Madurai on May 3; in Chennai on May 5 and 8; tour Thiruvarur on May 11 to meet voters; and address a public meeting in Chepauk, Chennai, on May 14 ahead of the Assembly elections on May 16.
Earlier he was to have toured Tirunelveli, Kanchipuram, Vellore, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Salem, Erode andCoimbatore by road addressing voters from the campaign van and participating in public meetings.
The 92-year-old veteran said the changes have been made based on his experience of the first stage of his tour and the overwhelming response, he had received. DMK Treasurer MK Stalin has said he will expand his tour programme, he said.
Karunanidhi expressed his regrets for leaving out some of the towns in the changed schedule but assured his supporters, he will visit them to participate in the victory celebrations.
The DMK leader had launched his campaign from Saidapet in Chennai on April 23 and had toured by road Puducherry, Chidambaram, Cuddalore, Thiruvarur, Thanjavur and Tiruchi.
