TP Senkumar, whom the Pinarayi Vijayan government removed as State police chief, has moved the Central Administrative Tribunal questioning his unceremonious ouster.

Senkumar has complained that fair procedures had not been followed while moving him out of the top police job. He claimed that the Kerala Police Act as well as the Central norms were violated.

As one of the first acts of the new government, Senkumar, who has only a year left to retire, was replaced as police chief with Loknath Behera on Monday by Vijayan, who is also the Home Minister. He was transferred to a relatively insignificant post.

The CPI(M)-led LDF was not happy with Senkumar, who was perceived to be close to the previous Oommen Chandy government.

His stand on the bribery charge against KM Mani, the Finance Minister in the Chandy government, was interpreted as helping the embattled Mani and Chandy.

The Pinarayi government has appointed Jacob Thomas, an officer in the rank of DGP, as the head of the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau, which had probed the bribery allegations against Mani and former Excise Minister K Babu in the infamous bar scam.

Thomas had publicly spoken against corruption in the previous government, for which he had faced disciplinary action. Senkumar and Thomas had a war of words of sorts on Facebook.

Senkumar has now been named head of the Police Housing Corporation — a post to which Thomas had been shunted by the Chandy government.

IAS officers reshuffled Apart from making major changes in the police administration, the Pinarayi government carried out an overhaul at the top layer of the civil service, shuffling as many as 26 senior IAS officers.
