The Gujarat unit of Aam Aadmi Party will announce the first list of candidates for the upcoming assembly polls after holding a roadshow. The roadshow will officially kickstart the AAP’s election campaign in Gujarat. AAP is set to contest in 21 seats out of the total 182 Assembly seats.

India will receive its first-ever shipment of US crude oil when a very large crude carrier docks at the Paradip port in Odisha. Indian Oil Corp, in early July, booked the first US cargo, opening the floodgates that saw other state-owned refiners including BPCL and HPCL rush to buy US crude oil. IOC and BPCL have committed to buy eight shiploads of US oil by March 2018.

On Gandhi Jayanti, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will kickstart a campaign against social evils such as child marriage and dowry. He had first announced the government's intention in this regard during the national conclave organised to mark the beginning of the centenary celebrations of Mahatma Gandhi's Champaran Satyagrah earlier this year.

A Pakistan accountability court will indict Nawaz Sharif on October 2 in corruption cases. Ousted Pakistan prime minister Nawaz Sharif will be present during his indictment proceedings in the accountability court in Islamabad in three corruption and money laundering cases involving his family’s offshore properties. The Supreme Court had disqualified Sharif, 67, as prime minister on July 28 in the Panama Papers case and ordered the National Accountability Bureau to file corruption and money laundering references against the Sharif family and Finance Minister Ishaq Dar in the light of the Joint Investigation Team’s report.

Karnataka will launch its Mathrupoorna programme through which pregnant women and lactating mothers will be given one hot meal a day at anganwadi centres across the State. Karnataka is the third State after Andhra Pradesh and Telangana to roll out such a programme, and the government hopes to reach out to 12 lakh women. Meals will be served to pregnant women and for six months after they give birth. The practice of providing ration under the Integrated Child Development Services will cease to exist.
