GAIL (India) will start piped natural gas supply in Bhubaneswar. To be launched by Oil Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, the initiative is part of a Rs 4,000-crore project to provide cost-effective and green fuel. Initially, natural gas will reach Bhubaneswar in special containers called ‘cascades’ which will be transported by road from Vijaywada in Andhra Pradesh. Later, it will be supplied through Jagdishpur — Haldia and Bokaro — Dhamra Natural Gas Pipeline. A natural gas pipeline is under construction and likely to be commissioned by 2019.

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh is likely to file his nomination papers for the upcoming Assembly elections. On Wednesday, the Congress announced its first list of 59 candidates for the November 9 polls, with Virbhadra Singh being fielded from the Arki constituency in Solan district. In the previous two Assembly polls, Arki was won by the BJP.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is visiting Kedarnath in Uttarakhand. He is expected to inaugurate a number of projects including the temple protection wall which will block 2013-like floods from hitting the shrine. This is the prime minister's second visit in five months.

HCL Infosystems board will meet to consider the terms of a rights issue. The company had reported a net loss of Rs 55.12 crore for the period ended 30 June, compared to Rs 35.70 crore in the year-ago period. Total income declined almost 40 per cent to Rs 713.94 crore as against Rs 1,183.12 crore in the April-June 2016 quarter.

Starting today, a traffic blockade will be in place on the Lucknow-Agra Expressway till October 24. This is to enable the Uttar Pradesh government to start work on the stretch for an IAF aircraft touchdown exercise on October 24. About 20 IAF aircraft, including AN-32 transport, Mirage 2000 and Sukhoi 30 MKI, will land and then take-off from the expressway. The AN-32 are meant for humanitarian assistance and disaster relief during floods or any other natural calamity.
