The Karnataka Government's Indira Canteens - to provide affordable food to the poor on the lines of Tamil Nadu's Amma Unnavagam - will open for public today. The State government had announced the project in the last budget. In the first phase, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike will set up about 125 canteens and hopes to get the remaining 73 ready by October 2.

The Kerala 'love jihad' case will come up for hearing at the Supreme Court today. The Supreme Court has been presented with two conflicting versions concerning a 24-year-old Hindu girl who converted to Islam in Kerala. Kerala HC had annulled her marriage after conversion following a plea from her father. On August 4, the Supreme Court said it would try to determine what actually transpired given the two conflicting versions.
