Reliance Industries will hold its annual general meeting today. It is widely expected that RIL Chairman Mukesh Ambani will speak about Reliance Jio's plans for the coming year. Reliance Jio has been testing its JioFiber broadband services and it is likely that the company will announce the details on the commercial launch. Offers and tariffs by RJio are likely to be disruptive. Mukesh Ambani announced RJio full-fledged service rollout at the last year's AGM on September 1.
TRAI is set to meet telecom service providers today to seek their views on ’minimum floor price’ for voice and data tariffs. A section of incumbent telecom operators has been demanding a minimum floor price, for both data and voice calls. Currently, operators have a free hand in fixing the rates and report tariff plans to TRAI in 7 days of launch —— and, hence, a floor price setting, if it happens, would imply a shift from that regime. Incumbent operators have blamed Jio's promotional offers for the financial woes of the sector.
Nagaland chief minister TR Zeliang will seek to prove his majority in the Assembly today. Zeliang was appointed chief minister on Wednesday shortly after embattled Liezietsu and his supporters failed to turn up in the assembly to face the floor test. However, soon after, the NPF . expelled Zeliang for six years for “anti-party activities”. Zeliang had spearheaded the rebellion against Shurhozelie Liezietsu on July 8 and staked claim to form anew the Naga People’s Front government with the support of majority MLAs.
Mercedes will drive its Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 Coupe into India today. Last month, the German luxury car maker launched two SUVs, Mercedes-AMG G 63 ‘Edition 463’ and Mercedes-AMG GLS 63 priced up to Rs 2.17 crore, in India. The company’s position in luxury performance segment is spearheaded by the AMG sub-brand.
The two-day warm-up game against President’s XI will open in Colombo, ahead of the three-Test series against Sri Lanka starting next week.
