New Zealanders go to the polls on Saturday in the most volatile and hard-fought race in recent history, which could usher in a change in openness to migration and trade and the central bank's approach to monetary policy. Volatile opinion polls have shown a neck-and-neck race, although the ruling National Party of Prime Minister Bill English has led in recent polls, with two giving it a lead of nearly 10 points. A change in the Labour Party leadership last month turned what had been expected to be a dull campaign into a nail-biting event, with 37-year old Jacinda Ardern vying to become the third woman prime minister and the youngest of recent times.

Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati will address a rally in Vadodara on September 23 as part of the centenary programme - Mahasankalp Diwas - to mark the day when BR Ambedkar resolved to fight against indiscrimination. BSP is set to fight on 182 seats in the upcoming Gujarat Assembly polls.

The International Institute of Information Technology’s Entrepreneur-Cell (E-Cell) will host Megathon 2017 on September 23rd & 24th at its campus in Gachibowli, Hyderabad. Jointly organised with IIT Hyderabad’s E-Cell, the second edition of this flagship event is the largest student hackathon in the city. Last year the event had received over 1,000 registrations and more than 450 participants from across 85+ colleges across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Germany will hold its federal election on Sunday, with Chancellor Angela Merkel seeking a fourth term in office and the anti-immigrant Alternative for Germany party expected to enter the national parliament for the first time. Merkel faces a tougher re-election campaign than previously after allowing more than a million migrants from West Asia, Africa and elsewhere to enter the country in the last two years. A poll published earlier this year showed refugee policy will be the biggest issue for voters in the election.

India and Australia will play the third one-day international in the five-match series at the Holkar Stadium in Indore. Australia are currently trailing 0—2 in the series after losing in Chennai and Kolkata. On Thursday, the hosts demolished Australia by 50 runs in the second ODI, played at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, continuing their dominating run over the listless visitors. The victory was also India’s eighth in a row in ODIs.
