The city-based Girijan Co-operative Corporation has completed 60 years, serving the Girijans in the State very well by marketing their products and striving in general for their economic uplift, according to State Tribal Welfare Minister N. Ananda Babu.
He was participating in the sixtieth anniversary celebrations of Girijan Co-operative here on Monday evening.
He said the State Government had drawn up a tribal area sub-plan and was implementing several programmes for Girijans and the corporation was involved in most of them, directly or indirectly.
The Government was also laying roads in the interior hilly tracts of East Godavari, Visakhapatnam and other districts to take the services of Girijan Co-operative and other agencies to the Girijans.
Instant Araku coffee
He said that in particular coffee cultivation in the Araku valley of Visakhapatnam had brought about a qualitative change in the lives of Girijans and the corporation was promoting and selling the Araku coffee as a brand all over the country and also in exhibitions abroad.
In December, Araku instant coffee would be introduced into the market, he added.
Staff retirement age raised
He said the retirement age for Girijan Cooperative Corporation employees had been increased to 60 years from 58 and a decision was taken to implement P.R.C. with 43 per cent fitment for them.
Announcing the decision, the minister said it was a gift for the employees on the occasion of the sixtieth anniversary and he exhorted them to work harder for Girijans.
He also announced that a decision was taken to enhance thef salary for contract employees from the present Rs.5,500 to Rs.12,000 and for daily employees from Rs.3,000 to Rs.6,000. He said that efforts would be made to fill the vacant posts in the corporation at least with outsourced employees and to provide housing loans to Girijan Co-operative employees.
Girijan Co-operative Managing Director ASPS Ravi Prakash said that the corporation's turnover had increased from Rs 148 crore three years ago to Rs 367 crore this year.
