To make the state a hub for film making and strengthen the facilities like single window clearances for film makers, the Gujarat government is betting on Cinematic Tourism in the state.

As a pre-event of the high profile investment congregation, Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit in January 2017, the State Government has organised a day-long seminar on 'Cinematic Tourism - the way forward' on August 29 at Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar. The event will see top personalities of Gujarati and other national film industry besides experts from technical and academic fields.

The Gujarat Tourism Department is aiming to attract film makers, directors from the state and outside to showcase the advantage of the state's tourism policy and film making policy apart from the scenic natural beauty for film making. The state offers subsidy and financial assistance for superior quality Gujarati movies.

The objective of the event is to open new avenues for employment and businesses through film making and make Gujarat a hub for Cinematic Tourism by encouraging entrepreneurship in film making, a Tourism Department communique stated here.

Notably, last year, Gujarati film industry had recorded a staggering eight-times rise in its box-office collections at Rs 55 crore, up from Rs 7 crore in 2014, showing the highest growth for regional cinema as a whole.

A report by FICCI-KPMG on Media and Entertainment Industry, attributed the sharp growth to change of subject and quality of production of Gujarati cinema. "unlike films in the past, there has been a spurt in urban-centric films with growing investment," it stated.

In May this year, at the 63rd National Film Awards function held in New Delhi, the Gujarat Tourism was conferred with the National Award for "Most Film Friendly State". Also, recently, the Union Tourism Ministry awarded the Gujarat Tourism with National Tourism awards in three categories for the year 2014-15.
