Identity proof will be mandatory for pregnant women to conduct ultrasound in any clinic in Odisha’s Ganjam district.
This has been decided at the district task force on Pre-Natal Diagnostic Technique Act meeting held at Chhatrapur recently, official sources said today.
The decision would be implemented from March 1 and ultrasound clinics should submit the lists of the ultrasounds conducted during a month along with prescribed form and the photocopies of proofs to the district programme officer every month, they said adding there are 35 registered ultrasound clinics in the district.
The ID proof will be relaxed only at the time of the serious condition of the patients, district collector Krishan Kumar, who is the chairman of the committee, said.
In this case, the concerned doctor should need to intimate the name of address of the patient to the programming officer immediately.
“When we have records, we can trace out the patient at the time of need”, said chief district medical officer of Ganjam, S K Routray.
“We can also verify the number of patients conducting abortion anticipating for birth of girl child”, added another officer. The administration decided to sensitise among the people at gram panchayat level on the issue, said district programming officer (DPO) of the task force Bishnu Das.
