An internal report of the Kerala BJP, which claimed exchange of money between top leaders of the party and the promoter of a medical college, has caused much embarrassment to the party.

The probe report referred to ₹5.6 crore being handed over to BJP leaders, purportedly to secure Central government clearance for a private medical college.

The party’s State president Kummanam Rajasekharan described these charges as childish, and based on mere speculation.

In a statement, he said the BJP had vowed to root out corruption from public life, adding that this was the express intention behind constituting the internal probe as soon as allegations surfaced.

Rajasekharan dismissed as totally unwarranted and exaggerated, the attempts in the media to ‘malign it and show it in poor light’.

Strictest action possible would be taken against any functionary found involved in corruption, he said.

Ramesh denies links Meanwhile, BJP State General Secretary MT Ramesh has denied any link to the deal.

He said he was neither aware of the identity of the promoter, nor had he met anyone representing the interests of the medical college under question.

Former BJP State chief V Muralidharan said that those peddling in corruption have no place in the party. He, too, claimed ignorance about the contents of the internal report.

The party’s Core Committee is scheduled to meet on Friday, following which, the top leadership will make its stand clear on the matter.
