At least eight new faces are expected to be a part of the 42-member Mamata Banerjee Cabinet in West Bengal. Banerjee’s first Cabinet had 44 ministers (excluding her).

The new faces will include former cricketer Laxmi Ratan Shukla; singer Indraneil Sen; veteran politicians Sovandeb Chattopadhyay, Sovan Chatterjee, Suvendu Adhikari, Abdur Rezzak Mollah and political debutants like James Kujur, among others.

Most of the ministers who were a part of Banerjee’s earlier Cabinet have been reinstated, Banerjee told reporters here. Portfolios have not yet been allocated. Apart from the eight ministers who lost in the 2016 polls, the names of Rachpal Singh and Becharam Manna do not feature in the list announced.

Banerjee, the Chief Minister-elect, will take oath on Friday. “There will be new faces in the Cabinet from various walks of life,” she said. The first Cabinet meeting will take place after the swearing-in. While she claimed all districts had been represented, there is no minister from Malda district, where the party does not have an MLA.
