Kudla Souharda Sahakari, a body of auto-rickshaw drivers in Mangaluru, has come forward to link auto-rickshaws of its members with GPS network. Some members have also started accepting the payment for ride on digital wallets.
Prakash VN, president of Kudla Souharda Sahakari, told BusinessLine that the body has around 800 members.
Of them, around 200 have already implemented GPS facility in their vehicles. The sahakari will start a 24x7 call centre once the number of auto-rickshaws with GPS facility reaches 500, he said.
Call centre planned Once set up, passengers can hail the auto-rickshaws for city commuting by calling the dedicated number of the call centre, he said. As and when 500 auto-rickshaws install GPS facility, the sahakari can launch tthe call centre, he said.
As installation of GPS requires investment, the sahakari has taken steps to display advertisement on the rear of the auto-rickshaws that have the facility. This will help subsidise the cost of the GPS facility, he said.
Digital wallet Prakash said that around 100 members of the sahakari have started accepting payment through digital wallets such as Paytm.
He said Kudla Souharda Sahakari (Kudla is another name for Mangaluru) is planning to install tablet PCs in the auto-rickshaws. The intention is to provide up-to-date information on the city to the passenger.
