The construction of a new platform at Mangaluru Central railway station will ease the traffic congestion at the station, according to Naresh Lalwani, Divisional Railway Manager of the Palakkad division of Southern Railway.

Speaking at the Divisional Rail Users’ Consultative Committee meeting at Palakkad recently, he said the division is having two sanctioned works for the construction of new platforms – one at Mangaluru Central and another at Kannur. On implementation of this project, these stations would be able to handle more trains, he said.

Track-doubling

Added to this, a detailed plan is being prepared for the doubling of a 1.5-km-long railway line between Netravati and Mangaluru Central. The new platform and the double line will ease the traffic congestion at Mangaluru Central, he said.

Tender process is on to provide passenger lifts at Shoranur, Kanhangad and Mangaluru Junction stations. Each station will get two lifts, he said.

The Palakkad division is planning for the installation of digital display boards at the concourse area of major stations to help passengers get information related to train arrival and departure, Lalwani said.
