National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Nabard) has estimated a credit potential of ₹11,921.85 crore for Dakshina Kannada district for 2018-19.

Launching the potential-linked credit plan (PLP) at the district-level bankers’ committee meeting in Mangaluru on Wednesday, S Ramesh, Assistant General Manager (district development), Nabard, said that the exploitable credit potential has been estimated under the eight broad heads. The projections for 2018-19 are 13 per cent higher than those of ₹10,517.39 crore for 2017-18.

The district has been achieving 82 per cent of the credit plan under the priority sector for the last four-five years, he said.

Credit potential

Of the ₹11,921.85-crore total credit potential in the district, potential for agriculture sector is estimated at ₹4,932.81 crore.

He said there is good scope to exploit the potential of dairy and fisheries sectors in the district.

Earlier the bankers’ committee reviewed the performance of banks in the district under various parameters.

Raghava Yajamanya, Chief Manager of the Lead Bank (Syndicate Bank), informed the meeting that the banks in the district achieved a total business of ₹62,288 crore at the end of the second quarter of 2017-18, as against a business of ₹55,226 crore in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal.

The credit-deposit ratio of the banks stood at 56.17 per cent during the Q2 of 2017-18 as against 57.44 per cent in the corresponding period of the previous year.
