The BJP is planning to mark its three years in power with a 20-day-long mega event titled ‘Making of Developed India (MODI) Fest’, a carnival to celebrate the Centre’s achievements and broadcast Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “ Garibon ke massiha (Messiah of the poor)” image.

Over 450 BJP leaders, including the Union Ministers, Chief Ministers and Ministers of BJP-ruled States, top office-bearers of the party will visit 900 cities between May 26 and June 15. Modi will kick off the exercise with a number of events in Guwahati on May 26. Government agencies and the ruling party will organise these events.

The ruling dispensation intends to focus attention on seven sections of society, especially the youth, through the outreach programme, BJP leader Arun Singh and Textiles Minister Smriti Irani told the media at the party headquarters, in New Delhi, on Monday.

BJP CMs will also visit States ruled by their political rivals, with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath travelling to Bihar, and his Madhya Pradesh counterpart Shivraj Singh Chouhan to Karnataka and Odisha.

Amit Shah will visit Kerala, the Andaman and Nicobar islands, Chhattisgarh and Arunachal Pradesh, while top Union Ministers Rajnath Singh, Sushma Swaraj, Arun Jaitley, Venkaiah Naidu and Nitin Gadkari will attend events in Mumbai and Jaipur, Delhi and Lucknow, Bengaluru and Ahmedabad, Bhubaneswar, Chennai and Ranchi.

Through a programme titled ‘Jann ki Baat’ (people’s voice), people will be able to record their feedback on the performance of the government, Irani said.

According to Arun Singh, 330 BJP MPs, 11 chief ministers, five deputy chief ministers, ministers in state governments, besides organisational functionaries will participate in these programmes. The BJP’s allies will also be involved in celebrations organised by the government, he said.

“They will each hold two events in States outside their home State. They also have to organise events in their home State and constituencies (for MPs),” he said.

They will hold rallies, visit colonies populated by the poor and meet the local intelligentsia, he said.

Irani invoked several Central programmes, including the Ujjwal LPG scheme, ‘Jan Dhan’, and ‘Mudra’ schemes, 70 per cent of whose beneficiaries are women, to claim that the government has touched the lives of the poor across the country.
