“A positive attitude is always necessary for success in life,” according to M. Sakthivel, General Manager (Human Resources), Sterlite Copper, Thoothukudi.

He was addressing a meeting of the Business Line Club of the Post-graduate Department of the Xavier Institute of Business Administration (XIBA), Tirunelveli, on ‘Career competencies’, recently. The event was sponsored by Tamilnad Mercantile Bank (TMB) Ltd, Thoothukudi.

He said that while more employment opportunities existed in the corporate sector, there was huge employability potential deficit in the market. Only 23 per cent of the MBA graduates were actually employable.

This pointed to job aspirants lacking in competencies expected in the corporate world. They are expected to possess a set of skill such as communication skills, people skills, confidence, critical thinking, problem solving skills, flexibility and capacity for teamwork. The deficiency of these qualities are due to a lack of positive attitude.

A positive attitude is always necessary for success in life, he added.

Smart goals

Students should set smart goals as a sense of direction is more important than the speed at which one travelled. Yesterday’s success is no guarantee for today’s success, he added.

He also explained how thoughts are related with one’s future. Thoughts become words and words become action. If one does an action continually for 21 days, then it becomes a habit and will manifest itself in one’s character and character becomes the foundation and gets reflected in his/her future, he underscored.

Passion is more important than money in life, he added. P. Sureshkumar, Chief Manager, Regional Office, Tirunelveli, who spoke earlier, explained the role of the bank in the upliftment of the youth in terms of educational and employment loans.

Rev.Fr.Dr.C.J.Arun, Director of the course, was present. A. Mathu, Assistant Professor, proposed the vote of thanks.
