Premier Solar has commissioned its 200 MW automated solar module manufacturing facility in Sangareddy district of Telangana, taking its capacity up to 375 MW and plans to expand capacity further to over one giga watt.

An integrated solar power sector player, the company has forayed into value added innovative solar products, including solar hybrid vehicles.

“We are planning to expand the cell manufacturing line and build a 1-GW solar cell plant and expect to commission the first phase of 250 MW by September 2018 through an international joint venture. While the expansion will require ₹1,200 crore, the phase-I will see an outlay of ₹400 crore,” said Surender Pal Singh, Chairman.

Sakura Premier Solar, a special purpose vehicle, plans to take up expansion project.

With this 200 MW expansion, the overall manufacturing capacity of Premier Solar goes up to 375 MW for modules and 50 MW for solar cells. This expansion propels Premier Solar into top five leading manufacturers in the country.

This facility has created jobs for over 500 people, both direct and indirect, Singh explained.

“This expansion will give a major impetus to our growth and Premier Solar manifesting into a key player in this sunrise industry. The ambitious 100 GW target by 2022 set by the government provides a tremendous opportunity,” Surender Pal Singh said.

Hybrid e-vehicles Premier Solar is also leveraging its expertise in the domain of solar energy by launching eco-friendly solar-powered hybrid e-vehicles.

These vehicles will be in the form of solar e-rickshaws, solar cycle rickshaws, solar e-bikes and solar bicycles, said Chiranjeev Saluja, Managing Director.

The company will initially market its brand of e-vehicles in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh and later expand its reach nationally in due course.

Developed in house by Premier Solar, the Solar Cycle Rickshaw is designed to be commercially viable, with low maintenance and can run 25-30 km on a clear sunny day without conventional charging for batteries.

It is light weight with proven crystalline technology, alternatively it is pedal-assisted with optional electrical charging.

With over 22 years experience, the company is currently building a 20-MW canal bank and canal top project in Uttarakhand.

Apart from 126 MWw of installed generation capacity, Premier has a project pipeline of over 100 MW in power plants and rooftop solar.

On the cheaper imports flooding the market, the company expects the government to sort this issue making it a level playing field.

The company closed last year with revenues of over ₹700 crore.
