The Telangana government has asked banks to use the portal of land records to sanction loans to the farmers without seeking submission of pattadar passbooks.
Addressing the steering committee of the State Level Bankers’ Committee (SLBC) at a meeting held here on Thursday, Special Chief Secretary BR Meena said an Ordinance was issued recently amending the Records of Rights 1971.
“Now, there is no need for the farmers to keep their passbooks for obtaining agriculture crop loans as the same are made available online now,” he said. All revenue records are available online and claims can be verified by banks before sanctioning loans, he added.
Banks should record their loan charge in the web portal to avoid multiple financing and to eliminate fake passbook menace. Over 20 banks have already started using the portal and others should also do the same, he said.
C Partha Sarathi, Secretary, Agriculture, asked banks to step up the pace of crop loan renewals. As per the data available, ₹6,056 crore has been lent so far under crop loans during the Kharif 2017 by banks, covering 8,35,748 farmers in the state. It is about 25 per cent of the target for Kharif 2017, according to a release.
