After leading the Telangana Rashtra Samithi to a comfortable victory, its President K Chandrasekhara Rao has said that the top most priorities for his Government are to prepare an industrial policy to attract global investments, focus on agriculture and job creation. He said he would honour all the promises made in the election manifesto.

The party has won 63 seats in the yet-to-be formed new Assembly for Telangana. The newest State in the country has got a share of 119 seats, with the residual Andhra Pradesh getting 175 seats. Disproving several exit polls and opinion polls, the party has achieved a simple majority, relegating Congress to the third position (20 seats). The Telugu Desam-BJP alliance has won 21 seats and MIM seven.

The TRS Legislature Party, which will meet on Saturday, is likely to elect their leader. KCR has won from Gajwel with a majority 19,391 votes and from Medak Lok Sabha seat with 4.75 lakh votes.

The Telangana Bhavan, the TRS headquarters in the Jubilee Hills, erupted into festivities as hundreds of party activists gathered there burst crackers. The party supremo, who led the 14-year movement for the separate Stateh of Telangana, thanked the people for giving the party a clear majority.

Meanwhile, the ruling Congress (I) not just failed to cash in on the 'credit' for facilitating the formation of the State, but received a severe drubbing from the electorate. Gandhi Bhavan, the party headquarters, usually bustling with activity, wore a deserted look. Most of its ministers, including deputy CM Damodara Rajanarasimha, Geeta Reddy, Sridhar Babu suffered heavy losses. Similarly, the Pradesh Congress (I) Chief Ponnala Lakshmaiah lost in his Jangaon constituency.

The utter failure of the party was manifest in its yielding the main opposition status to the Telugu Desam Party-BJP alliance, which won 22 seats. The party that performed as expected was the MIM, which marginally improved its strength to 8 seats .
