Two agriculture technology investee startups of Centre for Innovation, Incubation and Entrepreneurship (CIIE), the incubator and startup ecosystem builder of the Indian Institute of Management-Ahmedabad (IIM-A), have won top honors at Time India Awards 2017.

At the World Economic Forum, Davos, the two startups, Barrix Agro Sciences and Greenway Grameen, were adjudged finalists of the Time India Awards 2017. They elbowed out thousands of startups and innovators to win top honors as Startup Innovator of the Year and Sustainability Pioneer of the Year, respectively. They will receive their awards on January 28 at the CII Partnership Summit, according to a press release here on Thursday.

The Awards received nearly 15,000 entries across six categories. McKinsey were the knowledge partner for the awards, whose jury comprised GE vice chairman John Rice,

Infosys co-founder N.R. Narayana Murthy, ICICI Bank Managing Director and CEO Chanda Kochhar; Time Inc. Executive Editor-International Clay Chandler, McKinsey Asia chairman Kevin Sneader and Time Inc. vice chairman Norman Pearlstine.

“The wins are testimony to CIIE’s ability to identify and support early stage startups. Since 2007, CIIE has incubated and supported enterprises in the sustainability space with focus on startups that ensure long-term productivity, responsible use of resources and improve livelihoods, said Kunal Upadhyay, CEO, CIIE.

Greenway Grameen is India’s largest clean stove company projected to serve over 33 lakh customers by 2020, impacting the lives of nearly 1.70 crore people living in poverty.

Barrix Agro Sciences is a prime innovator in integrated pest management solutions serving over 2.20 lakh farmers who have saved Rs 30 crore in pesticide costs coupled with a 35% rise in crop yield.
