The North-East monsoon has set in over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala and adjoining Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh bringing heavy rain at some places.
Rainfall occurred at most places over Kerala; at a few places over Tamil Nadu, Coastal Karnataka, and South Interior Karnataka and at isolated places over Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema and North Interior Karnataka during the 24 hours ending Friday morning.
Punalur in South Kerala recorded an isolated heavy 15 cm during the 24 hours, an update from the India Met Department (IMD) said.
In Tamil Nadu, the districts of Madurai, Erode, Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Pudukkottai, Ramanathapuram, Sivagangai, Tirunelveli, and Kanyakuari saw moderate to heavy rainfall.
A persisting circulation over South-East Tamil Nadu had pumped in moisture from the South-West Bay of Bengal to drop rain over the southern parts of the Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
Forecasts for the next three-four days suggest heavy rain mainly over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Kerala.
The situation may take a significant turn after November 1 with the prospect of a storm forming in the Bay of Bengal, the precursor to which will have been lobbed in from the Gulf of Thailand.
