Speedy clearances and an industry-friendly regulatory regime should be put in place by the new government to be formed at the Centre, according to the Cement Manufacturers' Association (CMA).
“We expect quick environmental clearance, simple norms for transportation of solid waster and reasonable pollution standards from the new government,’’ NA Viswanathan, Secretary – General, CMA, told newspersons on the sidelines of the 10th edition of Green Cementech which began here on Thursday.
There was a need to align pollution norms with local-specific issues and raw material requirements, he added.
On the industry performance, he said about 20-30 million tonnes of new capacity could be added to the industry this year taking the capacity to over 270 mt.
Viswanathan said co-generation of power through waste heat recovery (WHR) system should be given renewable energy status as it would also help mini cement plants.
G Jayaraman, Chairman of the conference and Executive President, Birla Corporation Ltd, said WHR systems had a potential to generate 500-600 mw. “WHR projects are picking up and the installed capacity is expected to reach over 200 MW in 2014,” he said.
